I really wish I had a picture to attach to this post.
The evening of the 4th we went about having our usual homemade fireworks display, except this year we had planned a finale. One of our favorite fireworks is the "Golden Palace" for $8 dollars from Harmon's. It sprays a fan of sparks in all different colors that ripple from one side of the fan to the other. It reminds me of the old Esther Williams movies when they would light up a fan of fireworks behind her as she got ready to dive into the water.
We had the ingenious idea of getting three "Golden Palace's" and placing one on each step of a metal step stool. Giving the appearance that they were cascading down to the ground. Then lighting them simultaneously while a rousing patriotic song played in the background.
It was a fireworks display of epic proportions! The intense blinding sparks gave the illusion that it was the middle of the afternoon. The deafening crackle of the unified explosions drown out all hopes of hearing the patriotic background music. Oh, the wonder that resulted from a lot of gun powder and a Crockett family vision. The kids loved it!! The adult kids love it more!!
We are already planning the finale for 4th of July 2009 and our neighbors have threatened to hide our matches. -Christy-
